Turkey has about 74 million inhabitants and an are of about 780,000 km˛. It is a candidate country of the European union. Its economy is ranked 17th in the world, however, the GDP on a per capita basis is still quite low. Also the economic activity rate, which is under 50%, is very low. The unemployment rate is also not that good.

A life expectancy of under 70 years is quite low. Drinking water and sanitation coverage is ok. The school life expectancy and the enrolment in tertiary education is very low. The literacy rates are quite ok.
