The Netherlands are one of the founding members of
the EU. They have a population of about
16.4 million inhabitants at a relative small size. Due to the high GDP
per capita, the Netherlands are a large economic power in the world. The
Dutch economic activity rate and unemployment rate are quite good.
The life expectancy is quite high. This may be a result of the excellent
drinking water and sanitation conditions in the country. Furthermore,
the AIDS rate is quite low, while the GHG emissions on a per capita
basis are high. The school life expectancy is very long, while the
tertiary education enrolment rate is still far away from the leading
countries in that area.
